Review Process

Peer-Review Process

  • Upon submission, manuscripts are received by the Editorial Office.
  • Authors receive an acknowledgment email confirming receipt of their manuscript.
  • Each submission is initially screened by the Section Editor to assess its fit with the journal’s scope and basic completeness.
  • Authors will be notified within 48 hours if the manuscript is rejected at this preliminary stage for reasons including:
  • Manuscript outside the scope of Biochemica
  • Incomplete or insufficiently detailed findings
  • Evidence of plagiarism
  • Manuscripts passing initial screening proceed to double-blind peer review, where both authors and reviewers remain anonymous.
  • Authors typically receive the initial decision within 20–30 days.
  • If revisions are required, reviewers’ and editors’ comments are shared with the authors alongside the original manuscript. Authors must submit the revised manuscript with a detailed response (rebuttal) within the timeframe set by the Section Editor. Extensions can be requested by contacting the Editorial Office.
  • Final decisions rest with the Section Editors or Editor-in-Chief. In cases of conflicting reviewer opinions or ethical concerns, the Editor-in-Chief will make the final determination.
  • Once accepted, authors are required to submit the final version of their manuscript. Prior to publication, galley proofs will be sent for author approval. No changes can be made after proof approval.
  • Published articles will be assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and are fully citable.
  • The Editorial Office manages submission of published articles to relevant indexing and abstracting services to maximize visibility.
