Publication Ethics

Following is an outline of our commitment to publication ethics and transparency in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE).

Editors

Editors, including Chief Editors, Managing Editors, and members of the Editorial Board, must ensure impartial and fair consideration of all manuscripts submitted for publication. Each submission should be judged solely on its academic quality and relevance, without discrimination based on the authors’ race, religion, nationality, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation. Editors are responsible for managing the peer review process with efficiency and confidentiality, ensuring that manuscripts are reviewed and processed within a reasonable timeframe. The final decision to accept or reject a manuscript rests entirely with the editor, who may seek advice from qualified reviewers selected for their expertise and objectivity. Editors must not disclose any information about a manuscript under review to anyone other than the corresponding author, assigned reviewers, or editorial staff directly involved in the process. Furthermore, editors are expected to respect the intellectual independence of authors and maintain high ethical standards throughout the editorial process.

Authors

Biochemica recognizes as an author any individual who has made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research presented. All listed authors must be able to explain and defend the key aspects of the study and are collectively responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the submitted content. The corresponding author holds the responsibility of ensuring that all co-authors have agreed to the submission and are kept informed throughout the review and publication process. In the event of acceptance, the corresponding author must provide the license to publish on behalf of all contributors. Submission of a manuscript to Biochemica implies that all authors have given their full consent and agree to its content and submission.

Biochemica maintains a strict policy against duplicate publication. Manuscripts submitted must be original and must not have been published, in whole or in part, in any other journal or platform. Submissions must not be under consideration elsewhere during the review process with Biochemica. Simultaneous submissions are considered a serious violation of publication ethics and will result in immediate rejection and a permanent ban on all authors involved. Additionally, the journal discourages the submission of multiple manuscripts based on closely related datasets or overlapping research questions that could reasonably be combined into a single comprehensive study.

Plagiarism Policy

All manuscripts submitted to Biochemica are subjected to thorough plagiarism screening by the Editorial Board prior to review. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and includes the unauthorized use or reproduction of content from any part of another publication—whether from the introduction, methodology, results, discussion, tables, figures, or even references—without appropriate citation, acknowledgment, or permission. It is important to note that plagiarism is not limited to verbatim copying; even closely paraphrased content that mirrors the structure or sequence of another work can constitute copyright infringement. If a manuscript is found to contain more than 20% plagiarized content, it will be immediately rejected, and the corresponding author will be notified of the misconduct. Biochemica upholds strict ethical standards and reserves the right to take further action in cases of severe academic dishonesty.

Reviewer Guidelines

Biochemica relies on the voluntary contributions of qualified reviewers to maintain the quality and integrity of its publications. Reviewers are selected based on their subject expertise, academic credentials, and willingness to contribute to the peer review process. Upon receiving an invitation to review, potential reviewers are kindly requested to respond promptly—whether accepting or declining the request—to avoid unnecessary delays in the editorial process. By agreeing to review a manuscript, the reviewer commits to providing a thorough, unbiased evaluation within the designated time frame and affirms that there are no conflicts of interest related to the submission. Delays in the review process can significantly hinder scientific communication, and timely responses are greatly appreciated. Biochemica maintains a record of reviewer contributions, and reviewers who consistently respond and adhere to deadlines will receive priority consideration for their own future submissions.
